For revival of the Mukogodo Ecosystem
Restoring Mukogodo, together.
The Mukogodo Ecosystem is home to forests, rangelands, rivers and communities whose lives and livelihoods are closely connected to the land. MERN brings young people, communities and local actors together to restore these ecosystems and strengthen the way natural resources are cared for and governed.
Our work focuses on forest and rangeland restoration, protection of the Ewaso Nyiro River, community stewardship, documentation of Indigenous knowledge and youth participation in ecosystem governance.
Mukogodo is a living landscape.
Mukogodo is more than a forest. It is a connected landscape of forests, rangelands and water sources that supports people, livestock and wildlife.
These systems are under growing pressure from climate change, land degradation, loss of vegetation, pressure on water resources and changes in how natural resources are used and managed.
For communities living in and around the ecosystem, these changes affect everyday life. Restoring the landscape therefore cannot be separated from the people who depend on it.
MERN brings restoration closer to the people who know and live with the landscape.
Restoration starts with people.
MERN supports young people and communities to take part in restoring and caring for the Mukogodo Ecosystem. We focus on practical restoration, local knowledge, community participation and public awareness around the importance of the landscape.
