Our Nutrition Drive

NKISHON, meaning “better living,” reflects the connection between food, learning, the environment and wellbeing at the heart of the program.

The program grew from our work with Ng’abolo Comprehensive School, where we began exploring how a school garden could support both learning and food production.

Today, the garden gives learners a practical space to grow food, learn about nutrition, climate and the environment, while bringing teachers, parents and the wider community into the process.

The Nkishon Model

NKISHON connects food production, practical learning and community participation through a school-based agroecology program.

Agroecological Farming

We support learners and the school community to grow food using agroecological and climate-smart practices. The gardens also provide space for learners to carry out small school projects, test ideas and learn through practical experience.

Nutrition Learning

We use the garden to help learners understand food, nutrition, healthy diets and the importance of growing diverse foods

Climate Action & Productive School Spaces

We work to turn degraded and underutilized school spaces into productive areas for food production and tree nurseries, while helping learners understand climate change and care for their environment.

From School to Community Food Systems

NKISHON Agroecology Hub is a space for learning, demonstration and positive defiance. We involve teachers, parents and community members to extent the knowledge and farming practice from the school into homes and wider community food. systems.

Success Stories

Our nutrition work continues to grow through initiatives like the NKISHON Agroecology Hub at Ng’abolo Comprehensive School. The garden is producing fresh vegetables for learners and teachers while creating a space for practical learning.

Nkishon Agroecology Hub

The hub provides fresh vegetables for the school while giving learners space to grow food, conduct small projects and learn through practice. It also demonstrates how underutilized school spaces can be put to productive use and become starting points for wider community food production.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR NKISHON

We want to see more school spaces turned into productive gardens and learning hubs for sustainable food production and transfer of agroecology practices into the local communities.

To strengthen our community engagement and deepen local impact, we are inviting like-minded organization and individuals to support our work through donations, partnerships and networking opportunities to showcase our work.
