A pathway to sustainable food systems

....Every year, we strive to ensure at least one new school in Northern Kenya get a vegetable garden to ensure continuous supply of fresh and nutritious vegetables throughout the semester. That's our food security story.

Our Commitment to...

...Sustainable Food Systems

Sustainable food systems are essential to ensuring food security and nutrition for rural populations. These systems must be economically viable, socially inclusive, and environmentally sound to address the interconnected challenges of hunger, poverty, and climate change. At ACTNOW KENYA, We place great emphasis on integrating novel practices such as community gardening to promote equitable access to food and nutrition.

Malnutrition free future for kids and communities in the Mukogodod Ecosystem

Approximately 50% of Kenya’s surface area consists of grassland, supporting traditional pastoralism as a widespread livelihood. However, this system has faced setbacks, including neglect by policymakers, climate change, and land degradation and can no longer sustain basic food needs for kids, women and community as a whole . At ACTNOW KENYA, we work with rural communities to innovate modern agricultural solutions that foster regenerative food supply, and reduce malnutrition.

Nutrition Education

Nutrition education is at the heart of our efforts to ensure healthy communities. We conduct workshops and training sessions that empower individuals with knowledge about balanced diets, proper meal preparation, and the importance of nutrition for overall health. By equipping families and schools with this critical information, we aim to reduce malnutrition, improve child development, and foster a healthier future for all.

School gardens

School gardens are a vital initiative to enhance both education and nutrition. By creating gardens within schools, we teach students practical agricultural skills while supplementing school meals with fresh produce. The image on the left is our first school garden in Ng'abolo Primary School which serve as living classrooms, where students learn about the environment, agroecoogy, and the importance of self-sufficiency, nurturing a new generation committed to sustainability.
